This video was found by arrogantics. I love Weezer, but i love Muse ten times more. I can’t wait to get a hold of the game because listening to master tracks instead of covers is a lot more interesting. Hope they get a hold of more masters! Great find guys and great site. Link now on Gamepress list! —>
I don’t reserve many games, unless for good reason. I only reserve games that would have an experience like no other and i believe Bioshock has what it takes. This video helped me feel even more confident in my decision. This gameplay video shows off different parts of the game. I really enjoy the environment’s lighting and the water effects. It really brings me into the scene and what is happening in front of me. The game seems to work very smoothly and i oddly enjoy the fact that there is no crosshair or that there is no need to zoom in and aim on a gun. All this is in a crappy video, the final game has to be much better.
The world was waiting for their chance to play Halo 3 beta and when they finally got their hands on it, they found themselves graphically unimpressed. Many have jump to conclusions saying ‘Halo3 look horrible’ some have understood that this is beta code and that the final iteration of the game will most likely look a lot better. The people that are unhappy have made it known and Bungie finally have given some word on the graphics.
Over at next-gen they had the chance to speak to Frank O’Conner about Halo 3 and the graphics. Frank went over the public’s reception to the beta and any changes between now and launch day.
Well to be honest, we’ve seen them [the graphics] praised too. Multiplayer is by necessity a more sterile iteration of our graphical style and will always be tuned for performance and elegance rather than jamming the screen full of pixels. We think that the final aesthetic look of our game will be judged at launch in September and in part based on the more intense single player spaces. We’re also focused on maintaining the Halo character and atmosphere in our visual design – we’re competing with ourselves, and not simply trying to match the aesthetic of other games. We think that folks will be happy with Halo 3’s graphical polish come September.
We have a long time to polish and iterate on the largely complete game at this point. We’ll be working on some big ticket items as well as making sure that the little details, like decorators and shaders are all in place. Lighting and atmospherics are going to be big keystones in our look and feel, and those really haven’t been shown except in multiplayer to this point.
I think it’s safe to say there will be lots of visual surprises in Campaign and a few nifty graphical improvements in multiplayer.
A lot of Halo 3 content has been found due to a glitch in the beta and hackers looking into the code, but the latest issue of Gamepro has confirmed many of the features that have been discovered.
Weapons
Magnum – The Magnum is much improved since Halo 2, dishing out slower, more punishing shots. But it’s still not back to Halo 1 strength, as the clip currently carries just eight rounds and you can’t zoom in. Still a nice, precise choice for dual-wield combos.
Energy Sword – The infamous Sword gets two tweaks aimed at balancing its overwhelming power. One change is a brief weapon-switch delay. The second adjustment is more controversial: the Energy Sword now has an ammo meter that depletes with each attack, which keeps players from hoarding it indefinitely.
Vehicles
Wraith – The lumbering Covenant Wraith returns with a new player-operated secondary turret. It’s helpful for driving off boarding attempts.
Brute Chopper – This ugly, jagged Brute Chopper looks like something Firefly’s Reavers might drive into battle. Its twin cannons nad heavy, blade-like chassis can pulverize lesser vehicles in a nanosecond.
Equipment
Radar Jammer – Hurl this item into a fight and watch as chaos and confusion engulf friend and foe alike. The jammer scrambles the radar of all nearby players and triggers disco-like light flashes to further disorient your prey.
Maps
Shrine – A UNSC battle cruiser looms menacingly over Shrine’s sprawling sand dunes. Shrine is the largest map ever to appear in a Halo game, so Bungie put a key emphasis on vehicle-on-vehicle combat. Shrine has few ties to older Halo 2 maps, but its massive size recalls Relic.
Epitaph – Epitaph is an arcane Forerunner cathedral-like structure that towers above the surrounding wasteland. The central killing floor is crisscrossed with elevated walkways, exterior hallways, and lifts. It’s a spiritual successor to Halo 2 maps like Colossus, Gemini, and Midship.
Last Resort – Zanzibar, one of Halo 2’s most beloved maps, has been rebuilt and rechristened Last Resort for Halo 3. This industrial site is almost twice as big, with a less cluttered internal layout and more paths into the flag room.
Secret Map – Bungie sneakily sent us two mysterious concept paintings labeled only as “Work in Progress Map.” We see the icey motif and pray for a new Lockout, but only Bungie knows the truth.
Customization
Create a Spartan:
Tired of staring at Master Chief’s ugly mug? Halo 3’s online mode offers new armor permutations that allow players to customize their personas from head to toe. Will the Covenant Elite player models be eligible for similar upgrades? Only Bungie knows.
The armors were discovered just a week ago, i believe. They found the names of the armors to be Cobra, Intruder, Ninja and Regulator. The images seem to be taken with the camera phone, but you can make out what things look like. Some looked so bad i didn’t even want to add them.
Starting today, if you pre-order a copy of Dirt you will recieve a special code with your game. The code will unlock 10 cars in the game for free. It will also allow you give you acces to exclusive videos of off-road racing star Travis Pastrana.
Over at Circuit City they are offering a great deal for us gamers. If you purchase Forza2 or Shadowrun during this week you will be able to choose a free game that is priced under 19.99. Purchases can be made online or in-store. Don’t get too excited though, because of the holiday, many stores haven’t received any games that were supposed to be released today.
Note: another great deal, but for you Wii owners. If Mario Party 8 isn’t in stock tomorrow on wednesday, they will give you a free 20$ gift card.
Halo 3 Beta’s matchmaking has been updated. Say goodbye to ruble training and say hello Double Team training! Yep, they have added 2 vs 2 matches and with that they have also added Big Team Battle into ranked matches.
It’s been a while now since the last great racing game was created. Some would say the last one would be forza or Project Gotham Racing and with Gran Turismo trailing far behind. There been a pattern in the games though. Forza and PGR have been catering to the more hardcore racing fans, import tuner fans pick up on Need for Speed series and light hearted racers are left with nothing to play. I as well as many have taken the time to DL the Forza2 demo and noticed that the game has taken the next step into next-gen racing simulation. The game will release in a couple days and with its seemingly limitless available settings on a vehicle, many have felt its the closest a racing game has gotten to real life. Even Japanese gaming publication Famitsu has given Forza 2 the rare platinum rating. Which is great, but with so many customizations and options it often frightens the light hearted gamers.
And what does former GT racer Takeshi Tsuchiya think of the game? he loves it according to an interview he did with Turn 10 studios:
Q: You adjusted your settings a lot – how was that aspect of it?
TT: I just can’t race smoothly or enjoyably without the car being set up properly. In an actual race, I make little adjustments on every lap. You have to use your head in exactly the same way as you would in real life – you might want to set it up so that you don’t lose it on the curves, but if you overdo it, you might not be able to turn fast enough, things like that. Today, I just did enough tuning to be able to take the last corner at full throttle, but it was very close to the set-up I actually use in practice with the real car. I’m sure if I spent more time on it, I could get a better time with some fine-tuning.
On the 24th a demo for Colin McRae: DiRT was released for download on the marketplace. Those who took the time to try out the usually uninteresting rally racing games, found themselves having some old fashion fun. DiRT is scheduled to release on Jun 19th will give light hearted racers reason to pick up a wireless racing wheel that have recently dropped in price. Which Microsoft would gladly take your wallets as a price for one of these beautifully crafted race wheel. With DiRT’s simple pick-up-and-play controls and easier handling allows any type of racing fan to be able to pick up a controller and get into the game. Not too many fancy meters or didgeridoos, just damage meters for parts when you pause a game. But who pauses during a race? probably only drag racing fans. Who cares about drag racing sims anyways!?
If you haven’t tried out the demo, i personally suggest you try it once. You may have a lot more fun than you think.
That leaves us with import tuner types. The gamers that sit next to a bottle of NOS next to them. Ok with all joking aside, the fans of import games are left with nothing but a teaser video of Need for Speed: Next. With no sight of any gameplay videos or even a demo, lots are wondering whats in store in the next entry of NFS. Although the trailers seems to have stepped into the more serious side of racing, showing off a damaged vehicle, hinting maybe a next-gen damage system. The past games have attracted the more light hearted gamers. The game also has no official release date, but at NeedForSpeed.com a countdown clock is shown with the date MAY 31. With every day that passes a new screengrabs of the trailer is released. Maybe a surprise release? probably not, but my bet is on another teaser trailer or a surprise release of a demo. Enthusiasts will have to wait..
Over at the Gears of War forums the Vice President of Epic Games, Mark Rein, said that they were working on a new auto update. He mentions that they will be giving us the extra 250 achievement points free of charge.(technically) Some achievements are earned through the gametype Annex and some can be earned in the new Hidden Fronts Map Pack, which will be free in the future. On top of all that they will be tweaking the glue roadie run problem.
Here is Mark’s post:
Folks,
The next Gears of War update is coming along nicely. We don’t have a release timeframe for it yet but I just wanted to let you know we’re making significant progress. In addition to the previously mentioned plan to improve roadie run we’re also going to have new achievements relating to Annex and the Hidden Fronts DLC. Of course no title update would be complete without more exploit squashing and the ever-popular “general housekeeping”.
The title update is free and that’s what contains the achievements. However some of the achievements are tied to things relating to playing the maps in the Hidden Fronts map pack which currently costs money but will be made free in a few months.
Seems like they want to remind gamers that Halo3 beta is not the only game you can play.
