Ed Boon on new Mortal Kombat

subzero.gif

The people over at CVG had the oppurtunity to speak with Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon. What he had to say about his next entry into the Mortal Kombat series is more interesting than your average Mortal Kombat game.

Ed Boon explains, in very little detail, that his next game “is going to be a serious Mortal Kombat”. He mentions that the game will be “a lot more realistic-looking… we’re not going to joke around in this one, it’s not going to be like jokes”. It will be “a lot grittier, dirtier” than previous titles. Ed says he will be starting from scratch, but reassures the masses that the game will still be a fighting game, but “after that anything can go”.

Here is what else he had to say:
“We’re not putting any restrictions like we HAVE to keep weapons or we HAVE to keep fighting styles and stuff like that… we’re going to… try to introduce as many new characters as possible, new features, new stuff like that and take advantage of the amazing presentation, graphics that all of a sudden you can do, things that are a lot more real.”

He also mentions trying to take advantage of the PS3 motion sensing, but also the hardware of the new console generation in general and “do the most we can with them” and that the game probably won’t be released until the end of 2008. Probably meaning the game will release on 360 and PS3 like most MK games do.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD makeover

ryu-sprites-large.jpg

Not too long ago, Capcom announced the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the XBLA. What do you care? You’ve already purchased the other Street Fighter title already available on the marketplace. Well this version of SFII will release in High Definition.

In the image taken from RacketBoy, you can see the comparison of older sprites to the new HD Remastered one. The first on the left would be Ryu from Street Fighter II. The second sprite is from Guilty Gear. Notice the difference in size and quality. The third would be Ryu again, but this time from Street Fighter III. The fourth would be Ryu from Street Fighter II again, but blown up to compare with the beautifully remastered Ryu beside him.

So the sprites look great. Hopefully they look just as good in the game. I was probably going to buy this game anyways, seeing how i want a great collection of arcade games. Is the HD makeover enough to make you guys want to buy another Street Fighter?
